USAKERIFAQ on wireless access systems:
Customers often ask us aboutKeriused in access systemsKWXthe advantages of wireless transmission devices.KWXdevices wirelessly connect one or ** main controllers in a building or complex(PXL-**, PXL-2** or Entraguard). One advantage isKWXdevices allow mixed wired and wireless use in one access network. This section listsKWXequipment - the questions customers ask most, with answers.
When to use wireless devices:
Considering wiring cost and time, wireless KWX is simpler and cheaper; unlike wired KWX it needs only one-time installation. KWX is essential where wiring is impossible. Several nearby controllers can be linked by RS-485 as a group; where direct group-to-group wiring is problematic, wireless KWX can be used.
Wireless KWX is relatively low-cost in standard buildings. Compared with in-building wiring, wireless speeds up installation, **s stability and reduces labor, and is easier and ** flexible when the system is expanded or changed.
What is the in-building range:
It depends on the building structure. In a standard building (no heavy metal in walls), the range from the control center to the farthest point is **-1**m; in open areas it can reach 300m. The installation guide shows the distance between the control center and the farthest point; RF signals penetrate wood, concrete and stone. The device's test mode measures the range in your environment.
How to ensure KWX devices in a building work properly:
Use the KWX device's built-in self-test function.
Place two KWX devices on site: put one at the controller's ** location, install batteries, turn on the bottom test switch; the red test light flashes, meaning the KWX is transmitting control signals. For best results, mount it as high as possible, at least seven floors up. Battery the second device, ensure its test switch is off, place it where the controller will be installed, and read the signal strength from its LEDs; one or ** ** lights means the location is installable. The controller and wireless device can be wired up to 30m apart, so with the controller fixed you can always find a good receiving spot. This method finds dead spots near large metal objects such as heaters, ducts, beams and columns. KWX tolerates a fair amount of metal but must not be placed right next to metal, which shields the RF signal.
Do KWX devices reduce lightning problems:
Yes, many cases prove it works. The biggest hazard is RS-485 wired cables, especially outdoors. Replacing them with wireless KWX devices lets lightning discharge away from the controller circuitry.
can explain the simple working principle and the role of each part:
Use only two KWX devices and their antennas.
Each KWX device is a wireless transceiver (both RX and TX) operating in the 902-925MHz ISM band, while KERI's 2.4GHz transceiver uses a license-free microwave band widely used in Europe (e.g. cordless phones, wireless AV). The 2.4GHz band is also widely used in the U.S., e.g. Bluetooth, WLAN and Intel Centrino.
900MHz is the first choice when long range and resistance to metal shielding matter, giving better results in practice.
The 2.4GHz band effectively avoids the crowded 900MHz band and interference from cordless phones, sparks and household appliances, and also greatly reduces interference from this unit on other receivers.
The KWX connected to the main controller acts as the ** device, forwarding commands from the PC to each control point; each KWX sends responses and its status back to the ** device in turn.
Keri KWX devices use frequency-hopping spread spectrum, changing channels randomly many times per second, which makes illegal monitoring very difficult. KWX uses cellular and wireless computer communication technology. |
