The CX8B Card Reader Interface Module (RIM) is part of an integrated access control and security system. The CX8B is the interface between the access controller and the card reader. Its main task is not only to identify the details of cardholders entering a building or elevator floor, but also to monitor the door status and lock or unlock the door accordingly. When a cardholder presents an access card at the card reader (connected via the RIM), the CX8B interprets the card data and sends it to the access controller. If the cardholder is allowed entry, the access controller sends a command to the CX8B to unlock the door and allow the cardholder to enter.

Benefits
The CX8B can control a door or the corresponding equipment controlled by a barrier. For entry, a PIN is entered via a keypad; for exit, an exit button or an electric lock controls locking and unlocking, while a switch monitors the door status.
The CX8B can monitor all on-board input ports; for example, if someone tampers with the cabling, the system generates an alarm message.
The CX8B also provides an auxiliary 12VDC output to drive external devices such as a local alarm buzzer; for example, if the door is left open too long (beyond a preset time), the CX8B can activate the output to sound a piezo buzzer or similar device.
